Grays Athletic 0-3 Hampton & Richmond Borough
From Mill Field
Ryman Premier League
GRAYS Athletic produced a spirited display against league leaders Hampton & Richmond Borough, although were still beaten 3-0.
An inspired display from Grays’ goalkeeper George Kamurasi kept the score down, with Hampton having more than 20 shots on target against the home side, with Grays testing the away stopper just twice.
Hampton needed to continue winning, with Bognor Regis also in with a shout of winning the league but they were largely wasteful in front of goal.
Grays fell behind after 25 minutes, when Moussa Diarra rose highest to power a header home. By that time, Blues had already needed Kamurasi on more than one occasion, as he got the better of his private duel with Jamal Lowe.
Grays cleared an effort off the line before half time, although Hampton turned up the heat after the break. Brendan Kiernan scored the first of two goal five minutes after half time, as he was allowed far too much space and turned to place into the bottom corner.
Kiernan's next goal was a simple tap in four minutes later, after a strike had hit the post and as Hampton cranked up the pressure another goal appeared to be imminent.
Charlie Moone hit the post for Hampton, with another effort cleared off the line but it ended 3-0 as Hampton continued to march towards the title, with the defeat Grays' ninth in succession.
Grays Athletic: Kamurasi, Richefond, Manangu (Boachie), Fuller, Tennent, Osei, Ekpiteta, Gard (Bentley), Poku (Papdimos), Moses, Ezeh
