THURROCK men’s first team fought back from conceding the opening goal to beat Clacton 2-1 in East League Division Three South East.

After the visitors went ahead, Thurrock bucked their ideas up and started moving the ball quickly.

They were soon awarded a penalty corner that was converted by Matthew Leaver.

And Leaver got his second in the second half to give T’s victory.

The men’s second team had a good 6-2 win against Witham in East Division Seven South East – despite taking a bare 11 to their Essex rivals.

Ryan Jones opened the scoring in his first second team game of the season, but two Witham goals took them 2-1 up at half time.

The second half was virtually one way traffic with four goals from four penalty corners by Jordan Salmon, two from Liam Birch and goal of the game from man-of-the-match Olu Akinwande.

Thurrock sit third in the division still pushing for promotion.

The men’s third team beat Southend IV 4-1.

Michael Fleming gave the visiting Thurrock side the lead after five minutes before Bradley Rust doubled the advantage.

Southend scored from a penalty corner to make it 2-1 at the break and only some great interventions from T’s stopper Mark Harvey kept his side ahead.

Rust then made it 3-1 after a quick counter-attack and Fleming rounded off the win after dribbling through the defence.

It wasn’t such a good weekend for Thurrock women’s first team who were thumped 5-0 by Ashford and they remain bottom of East Division Two South East.

The second team beat Havering in Essex Division Two, however, thanks to a stunning goal in the final 10 minutes by Louisa Harrison.

At the other end, Thurrock keeper Ali Hadley was named man of the match for a series of fine saves.

Thurrock ladies third team were well beaten 4-0 by East London.

Captain Charlotte Adnams was named the team’s player of the match.
