THURROCK Harriers’ Gemma Holloway had an international debut to remember.
The 18-year-old, from Grays, was selected to run from England in the world-class Cross Elgoibar cross-country race in Spain.
And she was leading the under-20 women’s race coming into the closing stages before she was eventually caught by home favourite Celia Anton. The Spanish athlete was fourth at the recent European Cross-Country Championships and only just caught Holloway.
The former Palmer’s College student was delighted with her run, however, saying it was an amazing experience and one that made her more determined than ever to make it to the top of the sport.
