Chatham Town 0-5 Aveley
Ryman One North
AVELEY romped to their biggest win of the season to start the New Year with a band at Kent side Chatham Town.
The Millers won 5-0 thanks to a brace from Marcus Elliott, and goals from Pet Elbi, Billy Holland and Junior Baker and were in charge from the onset.
Chatham shot wide early on, and had the better of the opening exchanges, with Junior Kaffa coming close.
But the visitors were slowly clicking into gear, and Elbi shot wide with the aid of a deflection moments before Aveley took the lead.
Captain Holland manoeuvred space on the edge of the box and curled an effort into the far corner.
James Marrable had to be at his best to keep the away side ahead and ensure the Millers kept the away side in charge at half-time.
Neat work from defensive duo Spencer Harrison and Baker saw the advantage doubled soon after the interval, with the latter applying the finishing touch.
Elbi was influential in creating the third goal, stealing the ball inside the Chatham half and squaring for Elliott to score his first of the afternoon.
And Elbi did get the goal his play deserved soon after, although it had more than a touch of luck about it as the goalkeeper’s clearance cannoned of the striker into the net.
And the fifth and final goal game from a lightning counter-attack. Paul Preston burst from inside his half and crossed to Elliott who finished neatly into the corner.
Aveley: Marrable, Bakare, Preston, Baker, Harrison, Deen, Ola, Holland (Essuman), Elbi (Carvell), Stevenson, Elliott (Retkoceri)
