COUNCIL tenants have spoken of their anger after the Gazette revealed residents are being offered cash incentives to move out of their high-rise homes.

Thurrock Council has launched a consultation to collect residents’ views on the demolition of the high rises in Seabrooke Rise, Grays, but they already appear split on whether or not the six towers should go.

Residents of other council properties around the borough have contacted the Gazette saying the process, if it goes ahead, is unfair on families who have been on the housing list longer waiting for a new home.

One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, has lived in Keir Hardie House in Blackshots for nearly seven years with her partner and three children.

She said: “This is out of order. The council shouldn’t be offering people new houses if they can house the people already on the waiting list.

“Why should people who have only lived there for say one or two years get one over people like me who’ve been waiting for years?”

A council spokesman said a decision won’t be made until the consultation has finished and the views of those who live in Seabrooke Rise are taken into account.
