Police are seeking the public's help with an attempted robbery using a hammer at the Post Office on Hathaway Road, Grays on January 31.
They are asking for a boy who found a discarded black scarf in the street after the attack to come forward.
During the attack, a man threatened staff with a hammer before running off empty-handed in the incident on Saturday January 31 at around 7.40pm.
Officers would like to speak to him to establish whether the scarf is linked to the investigation.
Anyone who knows who this boy may be, or who has any information that might help the investigation is asked to contact Pc Charlotte Davis at Grays CID on 101.
