A TASTE of the wartime spirit is coming to the Thameside Theatre, with Lionel Bart’s musical Blitz!

Tops on Stage – the Thurrock Operatic Society – is putting on a night of hilarious and touching comic music, with the cast in full Second World War costumes.

A night of nostalgia is promised for those who want to enjoy the songs We’re Going to the Country, Who’s this Geezer Hitler?, Mums and Dads and Far Away, plus the music of Vera Lynn.

The musical was Lionel Bart’s follow-up to his award-winning Oliver!

The cast recently headed down, in costume, to the site where some of their own relatives were evacuated to the country.

Children dressed up like cast members’ grandparents, who had been put on trains to escape the pounding of Hitler’s bombs.

The story of the musical centres on Mrs Blitztein and her large family, especially her petty criminal son, Harry, and her beautiful daughter, Carol, and their battle to survive in wartime East London.

The musical is on from Wednesday, March 18, to Sunday, March 22. Tickets are £15 for Friday and Saturday evenings, and £14 at all other times. To book, call 0845 3005264 or visit www.
