LABOUR leader John Kent said he is "delighted" with today's election results.
The councillor, whose party lost the last election but seized control after two Tories defected, said Labour had made good progress in the borough.
He said: "I am really pleased with the results, I think we have made good progress across the borough, and I am delighted to have two fresh candidates and to have gained two seats.
"We have shown real improvement."
Speaking about the political balance at the council as it stands now, he added: "The council is still hung and we are still not in overall control. It's not clear cut, but we will be working hard to form an administration that will deliver for Thurrock."
There are now 24 Labour councillors, 22 Conservatives, two Independents, and one Concerned Conservative.
At the next meeting of the Full Council on May 25, Labour will try to form an administration.
If the two Independents and Concerned Conservative vote with the Conservative party, Labour would lose control.
In the event of a tie, the mayor will have the casting vote.
