THE Thurrock Re-Use Project is calling on people to volunteer and become trustees of the charity.

The charity is moving into its fourth year and its four main aims are to stop reusable items going to waste unnecessarily, putting these items back into the community at low cost, to support people and families on low incomes and to use these activities to provide training and volunteering for a wide range of people.

The project is looking for people from all walks of life to come and help run the small organisation so big ambitions can be achieved.

Senior manager, David Lawrence said: “ The next few months are going to be pivotal as we move forward, especially as the new local council funding structure for voluntary and community groups will (if we are successful) give us a secure and vital funding stream for the next three years.

“The government’s emphasis on the 'big society' and active citizenship provides a great opportunity for TRUP as we are passionate about giving people opportunities.

“We want to expand and develop more services, and our social enterprise business model will allow us to compete in this new market.”

Mr Lawrence explained “we need more volunteers to help with the day to day running of the charity and we especially need people who have experience in business, or with local authorities.”
