PUPILS at WIlliam Edwards School in Grays got to spend time in the company of an Olympics legend on Thursday.

Daley Thompson dropped by the school to spend time with the kids and later handed out prizes at the school’s presentation evening.

Thompson won gold medals in decathlon for Britain at both the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games, two European Crowns, one World Championship and three Commonwealth Golds.

He also set four world records and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1982.

Deputy Headmaster, Ralph Henderson, said: “William Edwards School and Sports College has a reputation for holding sensational events and last week’s Presentation Evening proved no exception.

“The Guest of Honour was Daley Thompsom, simply one of the World’s greatest athletes ever.

“Daley had spent the whole day at the Sports College putting the students through a string of exercises and having his photograph taken with all the students.”
