AT the meeting held on November 3 at the Thurrock Masonic Hall Ken Collins assisted by his wife, combined a talk with slides about the Gibberd Garden in Harlow, which is listed in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens.

The garden was the brainchild of Sir Frederick Gibberd, a famous architect who produced a wide variety of well known architectural and landscape projects, including Heathrow Airport and Harlow New Town.

He also wanted to design a garden, and this he did, where he installed many works of sculpture.

He redesigned his home with large picture windows, each one looking out on to a different aspect of the garden.

The Gibberd Garden Trust was formed after his death with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund, in order to realise his wish, that the garden be made available to people for their recreation and education.

Other donors and willing volunteers help to maintain the land and sculptures.

It was mentioned, that it would be appreciated if members who wish to give the usual items suitable for a Christmas hamper and the raffle, could bring them along at the next meeting if possible.

The Social Secretary gave information concerning future coach trips.

A box was available for those wishing to make a donation to charity, rather than exchange Christmas cards.
