AS CHRISTMAS approaches in a time of financial uncertainty volunteers at the Little Havens shop in Corringham are crying out for donations more than ever.

As they prepare for an influx of festive shoppers, volunteers at the Little Havens Charity Shop in Grover Walk are appealing for more stock to sell.

November and December are particularly busy times for the store with people looking for winter clothes, boots and Christmas presents.

Now the charity is appealing to supporters to think about them when clearing out their wardrobes and cupboards.

Trading manager Debbie Yearley, said: “We have noticed a slight downturn in the amount of good quality donations being made in the last couple of months which has resulted in a lower level of anticipated sales.

“In the current climate, people are looking elsewhere on the high street to buy everyday essentials and unusual gifts at lower prices.

“With 12 charity shops across south Essex including one in Corringham, there are plenty of opportunities for supporters to bring in a bag of stock whilst they are in town.

“Their donation and our customers help generate much needed funds for Little Havens Children’s Hospice.”

People donating stock are asked to do so during opening hours, as often bags can get ripped open or taken from the doorsteps altogether meaning that stock cannot be sold.

Debbie added: “Unfortunately, we are not the only ones that benefit from the donations our supporters make - so do unscrupulous people who steal from the bags that are left outside.

“Many people may not be aware that their genuine donation sometimes does not even make our shelves.”
