TRAIN services in the borough were delayed today after an attempted theft of power cables.
The cables, which powered signals and level crossings, were cut using a bolt cutter at the Fobbing crossing, in High Road, Fobbing, about 7.30am.
Three levels crossings, between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea stations, were operated manually while the vandalised cable was replaced.
Rebecca Richardson, spokeswoman for c2c, said: “The attempted theft earlier tripped out the electricity. While rep[airs were being carried out we were running about 15 minutes late and three signals were under local control by signal men.”
British Transport Police have launched an investigation.
