NORTH Stifford WI met on Wednesday, October 8 and after verbal reports from the treasurer and secretary, followed by thanks from the President, they held their annual elections under the guidance of dual-member and WIA, Maureen Francis.

Members were advised that due to losses on outings during the year the funds were at an all-time low and that in future non-refundable deposits would have to be paid, followed by the balance at the next WI meeting.

One member, who wished to remain anonymous, made a £40 donation towards funds and was given a round of applause for her generosity.

The President said the Quiz night on November 22 would be held to raise funds for the WI itself and urged members to attend.

The 2008/9 committee was re-elected as Ann Newmeir - president, Marilyn Beard - treasurer; Pat Thwaites - secretary and vice-president, Pat Martin - outings, and Beryl Kimber - committee member, with newly elected committee member, Maureen Green.

The morning continued with a Halloween theme whereby members worked in true ‘Blue Peter’ style with crepe paper, stickers, plastic spiders and bats to make Halloween associated items, resulting in great hilarity and surprising results.

The next meeting will be held at North Stifford Village Hall on Wednesday, November 12 at 10am when the speaker will be John Newmeir on the topic of “A Paramedic and his unusual experiences.”
