A THURROCK councillor is appealing for sponsorship as he gets ready to embark on a fundraising trek to Guatemala for St Luke’s Hospice.
On November 13 Labour ward councillor for Grays Riverside, Carl Morris and fifteen others fly off to the South America.
He said: "I'm very proud to take on this challenge for St Luke's.
"My task is to raise at least £3,000.
"I know it's tough out there with the credit-crunch and everything but regardless of the world's economic ups and downs St Luke's great work goes on regardless."
The six day 100 kilometre challenge will take Carl along the ancient Maya trading routes and the highland passage through many of Guatemala's 33 volcanoes.
The trek will end with a tough ascent of San Pedro Volcano which at 3020 metres above sea level is three times higher than Snowdon.
