SOCKETS Heath Baptist Church has celebrated 75 years in Premier Avenue, Grays.

The church building was opened on October 7, 1933 and recently many people gathered to celebrate the church moving to this site.

A specially commissioned book about the history of the church has been written by Ian Yuille and was launched at the celebration service.

Rev Howard Jones led this service which looked back over the past 75 years and gave thanks for the work of the church and the people involved during that time. Previous minister Rev John Ireland took part in this service attended by many members and also a lot of former members now living outside the area returned for this reunion.

A special tea for 100 people was followed by an evening of musical entertainment from the Thurrock Mosaic Choir.

The anniversary service was led by Rev Hetty Lalleman of Spurgeon’s College.
