PHILIP Kyndt is enjoying a well earned rest following his retirement as Headteacher of Grays Convent School.

Mr Kyndt had been a full time member of staff at the Convent since 1976, beginning his career as a teacher of French and being prompted to Head of Department, Deputy Head and finally in 1995 to Headteacher.

Staff, Governors and friends of the school celebrated Philip's untiring service to the Convent with a special Mass followed by a garden party at Wylies the home of the Sisters of La Sainte Union. Pupils also said their farewells and thank-yous with their own assemblies.

Among the many tributes paid, Mr Kyndt was praised for his outstanding leadership, his unfailing support of staff and the care and concern he has shown pupils throughout his years of service.

  • TWO Grays Convent pupils have been placed in the top ten nationally for their GCSE exam results.

Donne Stam achieved one of the highest marks overall out of 67,731 candidates in her Religious Studies GCSE.

Angharad Webber was in the top ten of 15,756 candidates for GCSE Spanish, even though she took the exam two years early in Year 9.

Sophie Da Silva, Head of Modern Foreign Languages said she was ‘delighted’ with Angharad’s achievement and Paul O’Hanlon, Head of RE said: “Religious Studies is a popular subject and for Donne to be in the top 10 of 67,731 entries really is an outstanding achievement.”
