Channel 4: Stacey Dooley stays with Barrie Drewitt-Barlow

The episode was part of the presenters series entitled Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over where she spends a weekend with interesting personalities who are in the public eye.

The fascinating episode saw her arrive at the Drewitt-Barlow's £6m Essex residence where Barrie lives with his partner Scott as well as a number of his seven children.

The episode touched on Barrie's rise to fame after him and ex-husband Tony became known as Britain's first gay dads, fathering a twin boy and girl through surrogacy.

His successful businesses gave him the opportunity of having seven surrogate children in total in the United States, with the practice of commercial surrogacy banned in the UK.

He takes an outspoken role on the topic which is widely spoken about in the documentary.

He has been accused in the media of genetic engineering and claims he has designed his own babies and was specific to what he wanted the children to look like.

Stacey Dooley puts this to him in the documentary to which he said: "Well we chose the sex of our kids."

Stacey made reference to how some people have an issue with it.

He said: "Oh a lot of people have an issue with it.

"The thought of going into an agency and looking through a catalogue and going 'oh yeah I like that one and I like that one, bring them here and let's see what they're like'.

"However, here in the UK when you go for an egg donation it's all blind - you don't get to see a picture of the woman who's giving these eggs.

"Why the hell would I do that?"

Stacey also speaks of how people would say it's a step closer to selective breeding and to eugenics, but Barrie responded saying his children "are not those designer kids, they're just normal kids".

Throughout the documentary, the love his children have for him is apparent despite the public criticism their dad receives.

Another key topic is how the wealthy entrepreneur made his millions across multiple businesses, including his medical research company.

Stacey Dooley took a look around their home and was shocked by the scale and design of the place which they have in Essex as a result of his success.

One of the main things which shocked the presenter was the amount of staff he had at his disposal who wait on him hand and foot.

He has two people who are his direct assistants for anything he needs as well as chef's who prepare food for him and his family throughout the day.

What was apparent was Barrie's open attitude to talking about all aspects of his life and gave deep insight into decisions he has made.

As well as how he does not care for the opinions of other people who may criticise him.

Towards the end of the documentary, they get onto the topic of his recent acquisition of Maldon and Tiptree FC which he bought as a present for partner Scott.

Stacey is introduced to four more of Barrie's children who had flown in from America to see their dad.

They head off to watch Maldon and Tiptree play Heybridge Swifts with the Jammers coming out eventual 5-2 winners in their final home game of the season back in April.

During their trip to the club, Barrie has Stacey behind the bar serving punters and gives shows her what they're all about.

When the game eventually starts, Stacey takes her place in the crowd with fans excited by her arrival and chants of "Dooley is a Jammer" sounding out.

They speak with fans and get their thoughts and opinions on the Drewitt-Barlow's purchase of the club, with them giving their overwhelming support.
