A person has died after being struck by a train at East Tilbury station, c2c has confirmed.

The fatal incident occurred on Friday, October 31, and involved both a c2c passenger train and a freight train.

Emergency services, including British Transport Police and their forensics team, attended the scene following the incident, which caused major disruption to services on the c2c network.

A c2c spokesperson said: "There was somebody who was struck by a train down at East Tilbury Station yesterday on October 31. There was one of our trains and a freight train that were involved at the time.

"The British Transport Police were on the scene and had their forensics team out to assess the situation. I am afraid it was fatal. The person who was struck sadly died on the scene."

The incident led to the partial blocking of lines via Grays, with services cancelled or delayed throughout Thursday evening.

British Transport Police have been approached for further details.
