A STUDENT has become the first successful Oxbridge applicant at her sixth form in more than a decade.
Mossbourne Sixth Form Thurrock, in Stanford-le-Hope, is celebrating a remarkable set of A-level results, with significant improvements across the board.
One of the best-performing students was Emma Poskitt who secured a spot at Oxford University after attaining four A* grades.
Her success marks a milestone for the former Ortu Trust sixth form, making her the first student in more than ten years to secure a place at one of the prestigious Oxbridge universities.
A spokesman for the school said: "This is a wonderful achievement in its own right but even more impressive considering how few students from Thurrock have reached Oxbridge in recent years."
Mossbourne Sixth Form Thurrock said that this year's set of results show a dramatic improvement on the last academic year.
In both A-levels and vocational/applied qualifications, the overall results have risen considerably.
A quarter of all A-level grades awarded were either A* or A, while 60 per cent of grades awarded were A* to B.
The sixth form says this is a significant increase on last year.
Further achievements were noted in vocational subject grades, which show a significant leap compared to last year, far exceeding national averages.
Six students at the sixth form also achieved the highest possible grades in each of their subjects.
Emma Poskitt, Nia-May Taylor, and Alfie Saillart all celebrate four A*s, while Louis Robins secured three A*s, and Aishat Adekunle achieved a triple Distinction*.
Sam Cooper, the principal, said: "These results are a fantastic, fully-deserved achievement for students that reflects the tremendous hard work and dedication that both they and their teachers have demonstrated throughout this year.
"They have shown what is possible when you truly commit to excellence and, with no excuses, demand the very best of yourself.
"We are incredibly proud of them all."
The school also applauded the 12 students who secured places at Russell Group Universities, as well as those who have secured places on apprenticeships in fashion, aerospace, and leading companies such as AON and AGEAS.
