Essex residents looking to lower their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint have a new opportunity to go solar in 2025. The Solar Together scheme, in partnership with Essex County Council, is making it easier and more affordable for homeowners to install solar panels and battery storage systems.
This group-buying initiative brings people together to secure high-quality solar installations at competitive prices. With rising energy costs and increasing interest in renewable energy, the scheme aims to remove some of the financial and logistical barriers to solar power adoption.
How the scheme works
Participants in the Solar Together scheme can expect a straightforward and transparent process. Registration is free and open to homeowners, small and medium-sized businesses, and Commonhold Associations that meet the eligibility requirements.
Once registered, participants will be included in a group where vetted, trusted installers have bid to offer the best price for solar systems. After the auction, each participant receives a recommendation tailored to their property and energy needs, including details of potential savings and costs.
There’s no obligation to proceed, but those who do can expect support throughout the process, from system design and installation to warranties and maintenance guidance.
Optional upgrades, such as battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, and bird proofing, are also available.
Savings and benefits
In the new 2025 round, participants can save an average of 25%* compared to market prices for solar PV systems of 4 to 25 panels. Beyond upfront savings, many participants report substantial reductions in annual energy bills and additional income from selling surplus electricity back to the grid.
One Essex resident, Mr. Young, recently installed solar panels and a battery storage system through the scheme. He said, “We had been thinking of installing solar panels for a while. As this had the backing of Essex County Council, we felt more secure, and it gave us the confidence to go ahead.”
“I’m extremely pleased with my solar panels [and] adding battery storage is where I think our savings have come from.”, Mr. Young said.
