Bantams legend James Hanson is set to lead the line again for Bradford (Park Avenue) next season, after agreeing a new one-year deal at Horsfall.

Hanson joined Avenue towards the back end of the season, coming out of retirement to do so, but did not make a single start for the club as he worked his way back to match fitness.

His cameo appearances off the bench were not enough to save the BD6 outfit though, as they were relegated from the Northern Premier League Premier Division with a game to spare.

Hanson did at least score his first goal for the club on the final day of the season, but it came in inglorious circumstances, a header from a corner in a 5-2 defeat at Worksop Town.

But Hanson is determined to ensure his time at Avenue does not end on a low note, and with this new deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, he will hope to lead the club to promotion from the NPL East Division.

Sporting director Thomas McStravick insists this marquee re-signing is just the first step for the club, saying: “More exciting squad news will be announced over the coming days.

“Information on the current squad and new players will be made available as soon as we can.

“We are busy behind the scenes putting a squad together that will help us meet our objective for next season.”

Avenue will be looking for instant promotion with their 2024/25 squad, as they get set for a first season in the eighth tier of English football since 2008.
