Emergency services were called to the serious crash involving two lorries this morning on the M25 between junction 30 and 31, at about 10.30am.

Two lanes were closed at the junction 30 clockwise exit while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

There was also a partial closure of the junction 30 roundabout.

Firefighters worked to rescue two people who were trapped in their cars by 11.45 and both were left in the care of the ambulance service.

At the time of the crash, a spokesman for Essex Police said: "One person appears to have sustained life-changing injuries and has been taken to hospital.

"We are at the scene on the roundabout and disruption is expected for some time. Drivers should plan their journeys accordingly."

Two lanes remain blocked at the time of writing with severe delays in Thurrock due to recovery work after the incident.

Drivers were warned to find alternative routes as they faced a 50-minute delay on approach with four miles of congestion.
