A MOTORCYCLIST was robbed of his jacket at knifepoint by thugs in south Essex.

Essex Police have launched an investigation into a robbery that took place in Link Road, Canvey Island, at about 1.30am today.

A man in his 40s was riding his motorbike in the area when two people on a separate bike pulled up next to him.

Reports suggest one of the attackers grabbed the victim while the other presented a large knife before stealing his jacket.

The pair, dressed in black, had their faces covered and fled the scene on a white SR Honda.

The attack sent shockwaves through the Canvey Island community, on the same day police launched a murder investigation.

Jenny Harper said: "What is wrong with people? It is just appalling, people are not safe anywhere."

Essex Police have now launched an appeal.
