A huge wildfire broke out in south Essex yesterday afternoon as firefighters once again spent they day dealing with several major incidents. 

Crews were able to contain the fire which broke out around 4.30pm off Buckingham Hill in Linford and prevent it from spreading further. 

Essex Fire Service said it sent eight teams to the scene to battle the blaze, which was in a field that was around 200 metres square in size. 

Thurrock Gazette:

Station Manager Dan Kirk said: “It was a challenging area to access but once again our firefighters worked incredibly hard and contained the fire.

"They did a great job.”

A fire service spokesman added: "Please continue to help our crews by being wildfire aware during this long spell of hot dry weather."

It came as firefighters also battled another large wildfire on Canvey.

The fire broke out off Canvey Road yesterday lunchtime and raged throughout the afternoon, with drone footage showing the extent of the blaze. 

The fire service has yet to issue an update this morning on the incident, but insisted it was under control last night. 

Crews were able to prevent it spreading to nearby farmland and Canvey's rubbish tip.
