AN artist is set to bring his exhibition to Maldon for the first time, showing off signed work and his attempt at a world record.

James Cook, from Braintree, will be bringing an array of his typewriter art to The Moot Hall.

James has now been using typewriters to create pieces of work for years and has created more than 200 pictures.

Some take a week to type, however, others can take months, with hundreds of thousands of characters used.

Typically sticking to London and Essex-based art, he has been branching out with new pieces and is excited to show them to the public.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

James said: “There will be a whole new series of drawings done on a global scale.

“Lots of my work has been confined to London, now I have looked at different world locations, America, Italy, a bit of France, Germany, and more, which has been great.”

On display at the Moot Hall will be a variety of landscape and portrait images.

There will be celebrity art, including a signed piece of work by Tom Hanks himself, as well as some new celebrity pieces that James is excited to reveal.

As well as this, he will also be showing off his attempt at a Guinness World Record.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“I have spent the last two months working on my biggest art to date”, said James.

“It is about two meters long, and is a panoramic view of the London skyline, from South London to North London.

“I estimate that it is more than half a million typed characters roughly and is ten sheets of paper put together to make one big picture.

“There are hidden messages throughout the drawings, so people can stand and properly look at it and uncover everything.

“Currently there is no world record for any picture that has been typewritten. I have sent it in to hopefully be reviewed by them, but it is a long process that takes time.

“I have also set the bar high, so no one thinks about beating it.”

The exhibition is at the Moot Hall in Maldon, from July 15 to August 7, open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
