A MAN had to be rushed to hospital after he fell ill while working up high. 

The worker suffered a "medical episode" at Tilbury Docks yesterday morning (Monday, May 9) and needed assistance from both Essex Fire Service and East of England Ambulance Service. 

Firefighers had to move shipping containers and use an aerial ladder platform to get to the man. 

The rescue operation took around two hours and the man was assessed by paramedics before being brought down to safety.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 7.50am on Monday with reports that a man had suffered a medical episode at Tilbury Docks.

"An ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were sent to the scene and were assisted by colleagues from the Fire and Rescue Service.

"An adult man was transported to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Port of Tilbury Police and dock managers were also involved in the rescue operation.
