CURIOUS items from Colchester’s history are on offer for residents to adopt… including a penis pot.

Colchester Museums is inviting people to adopt an item from its collections in a bid to protect thousands of years of local and global history.

The body is the guardian of some of the town’s finest historic buildings and help preserve a vast array of treasures including objects, artefacts and specimens.

The collection features Roman jewellery, pottery and weaponry, to natural science items spanning more than 2,000 years.

Funds raised from the adopotion scheme go to Colchester Museums Development Foundation, helping to support its work.

With prices ranging from £10 to £500, those interested can browse the objects which include a Viking axe and a bizarre Roman pot adorned with penises.

With each adoption, special benefits such as Curator talks and Q&A’s, certificates, and invitations to VIP events are included.

Darius Laws, Colchester Council portfolio holder for economy, business and heritage, said: “We are thrilled to be able to open up Colchester Museums collections to the public.

“Our adopters will be playing a vital role in supporting Colchester’s rich heritage, a legacy to last a lifetime.”
