MORE than a thousand Covid cases were recorded in one week in Colchester, latest figures show.

In the seven days to November 26 there were 1,038 cases recorded in the borough.

It means Colchester now has an infection rate of 526.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The Government's interactive Covid map breaks down each area and colour codes them depending on how many cases there are.

One area in Colchester is now highlighted dark purple which means the rate is more than 800 cases per 100,000 people.

Lexden recorded 49 cases in the seven days giving it a case rate of 863.4.

The most cases were recorded in Central Colchester where there were 85 cases and a case rate of 732.6.

Parson’s Heath and New Town and Hythe both had 83 cases each and Shrub End had 72 cases.

These areas, along with 10 others, are highlighted purple which means the rate is between 400-799 cases per 100,000 people.

  • Stanway – 45 cases, rate of 492
  • Mile End & Braiswick – 71 cases, rate of 453.3
  • Greenstead – 62 cases, rate of 449.4
  • Layer-de-la-Haye, Abberton & Mersea East – 34 cases, rate of 406.5
  • Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham – 29 cases, rate of 406.1
  • Marks Tey & Wakes Colne – 35 cases, rate of 382.5
  • West Bergholt & Wormingford – 24 cases, rate of 370.1

Tendring has a rate of 462.8 cases per 100,000 people after recording 682 cases in a week.

Two areas are coloured dark purple on the Government’s map.

Manningtree and Mistley recorded 104 new cases giving it a rate of 876.4.

Weeley and Thorpe le Soken recorded 62 cases meaning it has a rate of 833.1.
