DETECTIVES hunting a man who racially abused a shop worker have released CCTV images of the man they are hunting.

The woman cashier was working at the Tesco Express at the Lakeside Business Village, Chafford Hundred, when the attack happened.

She asked a man who was trying to buy cigarettes for some identification and he became violent, aggressive and was racially abusive to the woman.

He fled the scene, speeding off in a blue Ford Mondeo which has no registered owner.

Investigating officer Det Con Dean Batson said: "We are not sure why this man flew into such a rage.

"He was simply asked for some ID but then became highly abusive and racist toward the woman. He is not a nice man."

The man police are hunting is described as white, aged in his late teens, around 5ft 4ins tall with short blonde hair.

Anyone with information can contact Det Con Batson at Grays police on 01375 391212.
