The top 50 gastropubs in the UK for 2021 have been compiled by the global travel site Big 7 Travel.

However, Essex didn't have any of its gastropubs included on the list.

Some counties had multiple entries, with nearby London having seven included, whilst Oxfordshire had four.

Kent saw two in the top ten alone, whilst the likes of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and even the Isle of Wight were featured.

Essex gastropubs that are highly-rated, such as the Hoop at Stock in Ingatestone and the George and Dragon in Brentwood missed out on inclusion.

In its second year of existence now, the list was determined from a combined score of reader's suggestions throughout the year, online user reviews and Big 7 Travel's editorial team.

A gastropub is defined as a hybrid pub, bar and restaurant serving alcoholic food and drinks.

The list was looking out for those establishments that went above and beyond just ordinary pub grub.

It would be the sort of place patrons would come to for a Sunday roast, house-cured meats an artisan ingredients.

Galvin Green Man named pest pub in UK for 2021

Although Essex gastropubs missed out on the list the county still has the distinction of being home to the best pub in the UK.

The Galvin Green Man was crowned at the UK National Pub & Bar Awards earlier this month.

It was commended for its first-class delivery of food, drink, service and all-round pub experience.

It’s also one of the oldest pubs in Essex, having been built in 1341, and its location in the countryside with the River Chelmer running through its beer garden doesn’t exactly hurt its charm.
