A SCHOOL girl was attacked by a man while on her way to her morning classes.

Essex Police and Orsett Heath Academy in Grays have issues warns after the incident.

School leaders have even issues safety advice to their students for their journeys to and from the site.

Parents were informed with a letter which was shared on social media.

The incident has caused shock and concern in the community.

Worried mums shared the post on Facebook to inform parents of the worrying incident near the school.

Teachers say they are also reminding the students about keeping safe and tips to look after each other.

A Orsett Heath Academy spokesman said: "Police are investigating a situation close to Orsett Heath Academy in the Blackshots area, where an adult approached one of our students on the way to school this morning.

"Students will be reminded in school today about keeping safe when travelling to and from school including: walking in groups or pairs wherever possible, staying aware of their surroundings and environment and avoiding excessive use of mobile phones, using recognised routes/footpaths where possible.

"We will also increase the number of staff on duty in the community at this time.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called to reports a girl was approached by a man in the Springfield Road area of Grays at around 8.15am on 16 September.

"It was reported the girl was assaulted. Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
