Emergency services rushed to Southend seafront overnight amid reports someone was screaming in pain.
The coastguard was among those called to Marine Parade at 2.15am today after the screams had been heard near the Sealife Centre.
Two search teams were sent out to search for the person and they eventually found someone matching the description given to them.
Crews were eventually stood down after it was discovered the person was not in immediate danger.

A coastguard spokesman said: "The person was not in need of any medical assistance but we did conduct a welfare check on them to ensure they were going to be safe for the remainder of the night.
"Details of the person were handed over to Essex Police to conduct another welfare check on the person later in night.
"Dover MRCC then stood down the team and team left station at 3.50am."
