More than half of people in Thurrock have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 71,544 people had received both jabs by June 27 – 54% of those aged 16 and over, based on population estimates for mid-2019 from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those to have received both jabs, 69,474 were aged 25 and over – 59% of the age group.

It means 2,070 people aged between 16 to 24 have received both doses.

Meanwhile, 99,008 people in Thurrock have received at least one dose of a vaccine – 74% of those aged 16 and over.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who are fully vaccinated between different areas across Thurrock.

Areas with the highest coverage:

1) Corringham North and London Gateway, with 71.9% of people aged 16 and over fully vaccinated.

2) Orsett, Bulphan and Hordon-on-the-Hill, 70.8%

3) Stanford East, 69.9%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Grays Town, 33.1%

2) Purfleet, South Stifford and Lakeside, 34.4%

3) South Chafford, 40.7% Across England, 27.3 million people had received a second dose of the jab by June 27 – 60% of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 26.4 million people aged 25 and over – 67% of the age group.

In total, 37.1 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 82% of people over 16.

Despite the success of the rollout, some staff at care homes in Thurrock have not been vaccinated.

The figures show 623 out of 725 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by June 27 – meaning 14% have not had a jab.

The Government plans to make the jab mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
