Motorists could be set for lengthy traffic jams when parts of the A128 are closed over various weekends.

Thurrock Council has confirmed vehicles will be made to contend with restrictions when travelling along the A128, starting this weekend.

From a point approximately 150m north of the Orsett Cock roundabout junction, close to the southern entrance to the Bombers Cafe layby, vehicles will be stopped for periods of a maximum of 15 minutes.

Motorists travelling northbound along the A128 will also be stopped for up to quarter of an hour from a point 150m south of the Orsett Cock roundabout junction.

The temporary closures are due to enabling carriageway and works areas to be cleansed.

The initial restrictions will be in place on May 15 and 16 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Constraints will also be in place on June 12-13, July 17-18, August 14-15, September 11-12, October 8-9, November 6-7 and December 4-5.

It is feared the temporary closures will result in traffic jams, but there will be no alternative route as temporary obstruction signs will be put in place.

Meanwhile, a planning application has been lodged to build eight new homes in Fobbing.

Should the plans be approved, the single-storey detached houses will be build for over-55s and offer car parking.

The proposal involves a piece of land on Oakdene High Road.
