Another coronavirus-related death has been announced at Basildon Hospital.

It takes the total number of fatalities at the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to 700.

The newly recorded death happened on Saturday.

Figures released today (Monday, January 18) show there have been no further Covid deaths at Southend Hospital.

The highest number of newly-recorded coronavirus fatalities in the county today came at the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust, which runs Colchester Hospital, has announced a further 20 deaths.

There have meanwhile been 15 more deaths recorded at Broomfield, six at the Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and one more at the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Across the whole of England, there have been another 532 Covid-related deaths announced at hospitals today.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death. This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier. NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."
