The hard work and commitment of key workers in education has been praised in a report to Council.

A report presented by Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Cabinet member for education, reflected on the work of schools during this difficult year and looked ahead to the priorities of the service for the next 12 months.

Cllr Jefferies said: "My first report as Cabinet member for education highlights the tremendous work that has taken place throughout the pandemic, and looks at what the key priorities for education will be for the year ahead.

"All of our Thurrock schools remained incredibly resilient during the end of spring term and throughout the summer term. Schools and many early years providers stayed open to offer provision for critical worker's children, vulnerable children and those with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs).

"I want to thank all our key workers from early years through to colleges and sixth forms for their fantastic work during these unprecedented times, alongside colleagues within Thurrock's education team and those in the clinical commissioning group (CCG) and public health teams who have worked closer than ever before over the past 6 months."

"I know there will continue to be challenges with the ongoing pandemic, but we will work together to support our children, young people and adults in their education to achieve the best possible outcomes."
