SCHOOL half term events have been cancelled due to a spike in Covid cases.

Events at Gable Hall School in Corringham will not take place and it comes after all Year Ten pupils will have to self-isolate until Tuesday following a pupil testing positive for the virus.

Ceri Evans, head teacher of Ortu Gable Hall School said: "As a precautionary measure, I have taken the decision to cancel all intervention sessions planned for this half term.

"As a school we currently have a number of staff exhibiting Covid type symptoms in addition to the positive cases identified.

"Delaying a decision until further test results come back will inevitably waste time and expose further staff and students to the risk of infection.

"Letters have been sent out to parents via in touch to those who are categorised as “contacts” in line with the government guidance. However, it is inevitable that not all contacts will be able to be identified.

"As a school we encourage all parents to closely follow government recommendations with regards to social distancing advice.

"Further information will be posted as and when it becomes available."
