POLICE are treating a pub fire which destroyed the roof as arson.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a fire at the Jack Lantern pub in South Ockendon, on September 20, destroyed the roof and a nearby cockle shack.

The fire at the pub, on Daiglen Drive, is being treated as arson.

A man living in the property has been left homeless after the fire caused the roof to collapse and the first floor was left badly smoke damaged.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information following a fire we believe was started deliberately in South Ockendon.

"We were called to reports of a fire at the Jack Lantern pub in Daiglen Drive on 20 September.

"It destroyed the roof and the cockle shack was burnt out.

"We are treating the fire as arson.
