A SECTION of the A13 is now closed after a crash which has left two people 'seriously injured'.

The crash, between a car and a lorry at around 5.45am, just before the M25 junction travelling westbound, has seen the stretch of road closed from the A1012 to the motorway turn off.

Police remain at the scene and say two people are "thought to be seriously injured."

The crash first saw two lanes closed earlier this morning.

Traffic is being diverted off at the A1012 junction.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area, with delays of an hour as cars queue back to Stanford-le-Hope.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the London-bound track of the A13 at Thurrock  just before the M25 junction.

"We were called following reports of a collision between a lorry and a car this morning, Monday 12 October, at around 5.45am.

"We have currently closed the road and traffic is being diverted from the carriageway off on to the A1012.

"At least two people are thought to be seriously injured and we remain at the scene.

"We would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding while we deal with this incident."
