Over the past week we've seen more schools in south Essex affected by coronavirus, with both staff and students receiving positive results.

In most cases, school bosses have either sent home the affected individual and 'bubble', with some even going as far as sending home the entire year group to stop the virus spreading.

Here is a roundup of all the new cases we've seen at our south Essex schools this week.

South Essex College, Southend - Luker Road campus

On Wednesday, South Essex College revealed one person at the Southend Luker Road campus tested positive for the virus.

A number of staff and pupils were told to isolate for two weeks - but bosses have not yet revealed if a staff member of student tested positive for the virus.

A deep clean of all necessary areas of the college was also conducted in line with government guidance, and students were encouraged to continue to attend if feeling well.

Sweyne Park School - Rayleigh

A year 11 pupil at Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh tested positive for coronavirus, it was confirmed on Sunday.

Headteacher Katharine Dines revealed the news in a letter to parents, stressing that the school would remain open and that children should still attend if they are feeling well.

It comes just days after a teacher at the school tested positive for coronavirus.

Ms  Dines said: "I am sorry to inform you that, following a family member testing positive for Covid-19, we have had confirmation today that one of our year 11 pupils has also now tested positive."

The King John School - Thundersley

A non-teaching member of staff from the Thundersley school tested positive for coronavirus, school bosses revealed.

Pupils, from what are believed to be mixed year groups, were sent home on Monday after being in contact with The King John School staff member.

The school, which is based on Shipwrights Drive, reasurred that from the moment they were informed of the positive result that all necessary procedures were taken, which also included a phone call home from their student support team. 

It is believed that this is an isolated incident.

Blenheim Primary School - Leigh

A youngster at Blenheim Primary School in Leigh tested positive for the virus - school leaders confirmed on Wednesday.

A spokesman, said: "We were informed by a parent yesterday morning that one of our pupils has tested positive for coronavirus, after developing symptoms on Friday evening. 

"We immediately acted in line with our risk assessment, implemented all of the required procedures and sought guidance from Public Health England.

"Those children and staff who had been in close contact with the child concerned have been contacted directly as they will need to self isolate for 14 days."

Shoebury High School - Shoebury

Echo:

A year seven pupil at Shoebury High School tested positive for coronavirus, it was confirmed on Wednesday,

The student was among those in the 28 children tutor bubble which were sent home as soon as staff were aware of the positive result.

Having already had contingency plans in place for such a situation, parents from all other of the five schools at the Southend East Community Academy Trust (SECAT) were also notified of the case.
