A RAPPER on trial for rape is a “fantasist and a liar”, a court was told.

The prosecution concluded their case against Olawale Hassan yesterday.

He is accused of raping a woman in his car outside Genting Casino, Southend on February 25, 2017.

The 33-year-old of Falcone Avenue, Grays, also known by his stage name “Goldie 1”, denies three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Throughout the trial the jury heard evidence from multiple witnesses, including the alleged victim and her friend - who she was with on the night in question.

In her closing speech to the jury yesterday, Katherine Davey, prosecuting, said: “There are times when demeanour is very powerful indeed.

“If that is an act, if she is putting on a performance, it must be one of the best acting performances known, up there with our best actresses.

“There’s the grinding dance, and she’s making all sorts of other dances with other people.

“Is there a point in there saying, ‘if you’re having a grind there with him you must have consented to having sex with him later’?”

Ms Davey said this was a “troubling argument” and that it put forward a notion that she was “asking for it”.

She added: “Thankfully, we can say in 2020, what an outrageous suggestion.

“Men and women are entitled to dance with people however they like.

“If you think she may have been lying, ask yourself why.

“What reduced her from the happy, smiling girl you saw in the club to the wreck the officer saw and what you saw.

“Is it she decided to make up a lie or is it because she has been horribly raped in a car.

“She has no good reason to lie whatsoever.

“This man is a fantasist, a liar and a rapist, and the verdict I encourage you to have is guilty.”

The trial continues.
