AN ICONIC radio duo celebrate their 20th anniversary of working together on air tomorrow.

Martin Day and Su Harrison have been entertaining listeners across Essex for the past two decades.

The duo spent many years on Heart Radio before a company restructuring meant they had to leave the station in May last year.

However, in December, they signed a new deal with Radio Essex, based in Southend, for a new breakfast show.

The pair were first paired together on Essex FM on September 11, 2000, before the station was rebranded to Heart in 2009.

Their new breakfast show relaunched on the station on January 6 this year, and has since seen a record rise in listeners each morning.

Speaking about their time on air together, Su Harrison said: “I can’t believe I’ve managed to put up with him for this long.

“Other than holidays, the birth of my daughter, and the break we had last year we’ve probably spent more time together than most couples.

“I’m having the best time here, it feels like home.

“Twenty years is a long time and I have to say working with Martin is great fun, most of the time.

Talking about Radio Essex, Martin Day said: “The people of Essex have been so kind in taking Su and I into their homes and cars for twenty years.”

“I really can’t believe those years have gone and yet we still have so much more to discuss with you all.

“Thanks to my northern co-host for the years of laughs and for a laugh that I’m only just getting used to... it does take a while!

“We hope to spend many more years in the privileged position of waking up our county on Radio Essex and thank you all for the loan of your ears.”

When the duo were signed, Radio Essex programme director Chris Brooks said Martin and Su presented a “huge opportunity” for the station to be the number one in Essex.

Global Radio, which owns Heart, revealed last year they were axing all regional breakfast shows on Heart studios around the country and replacing them with one national show.

Tomorrow, the duo will be reminiscing with former on-air mates, playing their favourite games and chatting to a mystery surprise guest.
