AN OIL spill caused and a broken down lorry has closed the A13 this morning.

The eastbound carriageway of the A13 has shut this morning due to the broken down lorry, with oil across both lanes of the road.

The incident happened between the A1306 at the Wennington Interchange, Wennington and the M25 junction 30 with Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock.

The disruption started at around 7am today and a large quantity of oil is said to have been spilt across the road surface.

Traffic between Dagenham and the M25 has been stacked up, with the motorway slip road also being closed.

A diversion route is in place, with drivers being directed via the A1306 Arterial Road through Purfleet and rejoin at M25 junction 31.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area or allow extra time if travelling.
