A CHARITY says it will remain ready to support the most vulnerable residents as coronavirus restrictions are lifted further.

From tomorrow, Government advice has changed so those deemed “at risk” no longer have to shield at their homes.

Community360, which has been helping vulnerable residents throughout the pandemic, says many may still be worried about leaving the house, but the charity insists its volunteers are able to help.

Tracy Rudling, CEO, said: “The elderly in particular may still not feel comfortable about resuming shopping trips or visiting pharmacies for example. “Government guidance still stresses the need to exercise caution and to still avoid contact with people outside of their family units. Social isolation has not gone away either, which is why the befriending telephone service we initiated during the pandemic will continue to operate.”

Community360 has a “doorstep buddy” service to get people mobile again and volunteers will continue helping via its social prescribing service.

Mrs Rudling added: “Coronavirus has not gone away. There is still concern, so it is important to still offer ongoing support to the community and the need for volunteers will also continue to be important moving forward.”
