A VILLAGE pub is roaring with delight after launching its new brunch menu.

The Lion, in Earls Colne, is putting the bite into breakfast, having just launched its new brunch menu on a Sunday morning.

It is the “mane” new addition at a venue which prides itself on blending the warmth of a traditional pub, with the class and style of a bar.

Josephine Doyle Linden runs the pub, in High Street, and admits being particularly pleased with the new Sunday venture - and delighted to be crowned as the Gazette’s second Pub of the Week.

“We’re so excited to have launched our brunch menu,” she said.

“It includes all the classics, including The Lion big breakfast, bacon and waffles and eggs Benedict. Hopefully it will prove popular and it’s the latest example of how our pub is special.

“We don’t consider ourselves a traditional pub, although we feel we embrace the warmth and friendly service of one.

“Instead, we call ourselves a cellar, bar and oven and one of the highlights is our wood-fired pizza oven, from which we serve a Mediterranean-inspired menu.”

Miss Doyle Linden has been running The Lion for seven years and has plenty of experience in the pub game, having previously worked for Darran and Caroline Lingley at the Five Bells, in Colne Engaine, and for Phred and Terry Martin, at The Swan, in Chapel.

“We pride ourselves on being part of our local community,” said the 29-year-old, who employs 26 staff. “We’re big supporters of all local businesses and always get involved in village events, like the late-night shopping and charity events such as the annual rounders match.

“We’re always here with a warm welcome, friendly smile and a listening ear.”
