THE old home of a historic Colchester engineering firm is set to go under the hammer with a guide price of £750,000.

Gamet Bearing's former base, in Hythe Station Road, Colchester, is being sold by auctioneers Acuitus at a sale on Thursday.

The 1.1 hectare site, which is made up of a large industrial building, a two storey office and outside space, is expected to sell for more than £750,000.

The site is being marketed with potential for redevelopment, change of use or refurbishment.

Gamet Bearings was set up in the 50s but bought by rival, Huddersfield based firm HB Bearings in 2019.

Before the Colchester site closed the same year it was believed to be one of the town's oldest factories.

Around 20 people are believed to have lost their jobs when the site closed.
