A WOMAN and child were rescued after their car got stuck in flood water.

Essex Fire Service were called out to Buttsbury Wash in Billericay this morning at 11.20am.

The car had become stuck in some flood water, and firefighters deployed a water rescue raft to rescue the woman and a child from the vehicle by 11.49am.

The fire service has issued advice on driving on wet roads.

A spokesman said: "If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find another route.

"Reduce your speed, allow extra braking distance.

"Some of the firefighters at this incident are on-call firefighters who live or work within five minutes of an on-call fire station and are paid to protect their community."
