A HARWICH hair salon is being redecorated after receiving hundreds of pounds from a council’s grant scheme.

Hair SHAC by the Pier, in King’s Quay Street, is being revamped after it successfully applied for Tendring Council’s Harwich and Dovercourt Bay Business Grant Scheme.

The salon will receive almost £560 in match-funding for the works, which will see the redecoration of the salon.

The grant scheme is in place to support independent businesses within the Harwich and Dovercourt area with a whole range of refurbishment and improvement projects.

A total funding pot of £20,000 is available, and the money is primarily being targeted to help mark the 400th anniversary of the sailing of The Mayflower, which carried the Pilgrim Fathers to America.

Gemma Deex, owner of hair SHAC by the Pier, said she will be using local firms Charlotte Briscoe Interiors and Rob McDonald Painting and Decorating to further support Tendring businesses.

Mrs Deex, 34, said: “I am extremely grateful for the approval of this grant as it will enable me to make my boutique salon even more chic.

“This has come at the perfect time as the salon is closed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, and I can’t wait to get started so hair SHAC by the Pier will be back open with a beautiful fresh feel for all our existing and new clients.

“I would also like to thank Tendring Council for its support in providing this grant.”

Mary Newton, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for business and economic growth, urged other firms in the area to apply for a grant.

She said: “It’s brilliant to see us starting to pay out some of the grant money to support local businesses, and the work being done to Hair SHAC by the Pier I’m sure will look fantastic when completed.

“With this grant not only are we supporting hair SHAC by the Pier, but through them local tradespeople too which is great to see. As Gemma has found, now could be the ideal time for other businesses in Harwich and Dovercourt to plan and carry out works such as these if you are closed due to Covid-19, and I would urge businesses to apply as soon as possible.”
