NATURAL England has issued a reminder to walkers to keep an eye out for wildlife on visits to Whixall and Bettisfield Moss.

The reminder comes following the reopening of car parks at the sites as per new government guidance.

A spokesman for Natural England said that as this time of year sees various birds nesting, dog-walkers should keep their pets on a short lead.

They said: "If you are planning to visit Fenn’s Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses NNR please remember that birds such as curlew and lapwing will be nesting on the ground and may well be very close to the trails.

"There are also adders on site.

"To protect the wildlife and your dog, keep dogs on short leads at all times and stay on the trail.

Please remember when visiting the site to respect the local environment, people and wildlife, follow the countryside code and follow social distancing guidelines.

Remember that parts of the reserve are in Wales, please be aware and respect the different rules and advice with regard to exercise."
